The Winery:
Even in this wine region of remotely located wineries, this 130 acre estate is a ways from anywhere.   The winery is located in the river valley of Hyampom tucked away in the Trinity Alps on the far western edge of Trinity County.  This is incredibly beautiful area of wild rivers and tall trees.  They offer tours and tasting by appointment only.

The Vineyards:
There is a serious diurnal shift here, with the high and low temperature in a given day showing a difference of 50 degrees or more, allowing the grapes to rest in the cool mists that envelope the valley in the evenings. 

The Wines:
The winery specializes in cooler region grapes with lower alcohol levels than is commonly found in many other parts of California.  The winery currently produces a Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.   

The Winemaker:
The Merlos both worked in the medical profession; Ray as a physician and Robin as a physician assistant. After purchasing the estate in Hyampom Valley they planted grapes and worked with neighbor Randall Meredith to produce their first wines. They now produce the R. Merlo wines at their own winery.
