The Winery:
The winery is lcoated in the same valley near Manton as Alger and is named after the mountain that is the precursor to Mount Lassen. There is currently no tasting room at the winery, but the wines can be purchased at several markets in Red Bluff, Redding and Shingletown. For those of you who collect labels, this is a must have. The 20 acre estate started as a vineyard in 1999 and a winery followed soon after.
|
The Vineyards:
Located at the 2660 foot elevation, the vineyards are organically farmed which the winemaker feels enhances the quality of the wine. The higher elevation makes this considerably cooler than the nearby valley, reducing pest damage and increasing hangtimes. The vineyard started with four acres of Syrah followed by Petite Sirah as well as additional Syrah vines.
|
The Wines:
The winery produces a Shiraz that took a blue ribbon at the recent Shasta District Fair.
|
The Winemaker:
The winemaker at Mt Tehama is Richard Bunch.
